What's New in the 2021 Toyota Tundra?
For 2021, Toyota now offers the Tundra with two new style variations. The Nightshade Edition comes in a unique range of paint colors, and it also sports dark accents inside and out. The Trail Special Edition is based on the Tundra's SR5 trim in a roomy Crew Cab configuration, and it adds to the truck's offerings with all-terrain tires, black-and-tan upholstery, and more.
When the 2021 Tundra is fully set up for the tasks, it can tow up to 10,200 pounds and haul up to 1,730 pounds. A 381-horsepower V8 engine comes standard, as does a six-speed automatic transmission. The truck handles well on streets and highways, and the powertrain accelerates promptly when duty calls. You can also rumble off-road in the sturdy pickup, and the TRD Pro trim is optimized for off-roading with FOX shocks and a front skid plate.
The Tundra offers plenty of room for you and your passengers, especially in the Crew Cab version. The cab provides generous overhead space for taller passengers, and two sets of LATCH car seat fasteners let you bring younger riders along when the truck must serve as family transportation. The base interior is fitted with durable materials, and you can upgrade the space with available options like the 1794 Edition's saddle-brown leather trim.
A Wi-Fi hotspot comes standard to keep you connected as you travel, and the truck's apps are accessible through a 7-inch touchscreen. Standard tech features for 2021 include Amazon Alexa and smartphone synchronization for Apple and Android. Safety tools like forward collision warning and pedestrian detection also come standard.
History of the Tundra
Toyota brought the Tundra to North America in 2000 to replace the outgoing T100 as their front-running full-sized pickup. The premier model was offered with V6 and V8 engine options, and the pickup soon found a home on job sites, farms, and roadways across the U.S. Toyota followed up the debut with several updates in the years that followed, including the addition of a Double Cab option as well as upgrades to the powertrain.
When the Tundra's second generation began, it launched with greater towing and hauling capacities along with a new V8 option. By 2007, the highly customizable Tundra was available in 31 dynamic configurations with its various powertrains, wheelbases, bed sizes, and cab styles. With continual updates and innovations, Toyota continues to enhance the Tundra's capabilities, and the truck remains a dependable workhorse that now pairs rugged capability with modern technology.
